Dr. Soundararajan Periyasamy is the Founder Chairman of Atthi Group of Institutions & Atthi Hospital, Gudiyatham. He is a distinguished kidney specialist and is renowned as one of the pioneered nephrologists in the country. His extensive expertise encompasses advanced training in both medical and surgical approaches to kidney disease, positioning him as a leading figure in the field. He has pioneered renal transplants and holds the distinction of being the first surgeon to perform an HIV kidney transplant in India. He brings over 48 years of clinical experience to his practice. In 1976, he finished his MBBS from Coimbatore Medical College, Madras University.

Post that he went to take his MD (General Medicine) from Madurai Medical College in 1979, Madurai Kamaraj University, DM (Nephrology) from Madras Medical College, Madras University in 1984 and PhD (Medical Pharmacology) and secured gold medals and university first rank in various occasions. He holds the distinction of being a member in professional bodies like Indian Society of Nephrology, Association of Physicians of India, Indian Medical Association and International Society for Nephrology. He has several research papers published in national as well as international scientific journals. Moreover, he holds the distinction of receiving the best UG and PG teacher award, lifetime achievement awards, recipient of CAPD Fellowship at Toronto & Common wealth transplant fellow at Guys Hospital, London, organized first dialysis at Thanjavur Medical College & first transplant at Government KMC hospital at Chennai and he was the first to use snake bite donor successfully for a survivor & first to perform a cadaver transplant after the introduction of Organ Transplant Act. He always has strong conviction that Atthi Nursing College should make every student perform well in their studies and live up to the expectation of the parents and society as a whole.
